My Letter Immediately following 9/11

by Pam Woodson

This day in history is one that stirs up emotions of both grief and patriotism. The loss of lives during the terrorist attacks in America on September 11, 2001 still aches our hearts. My sympathy goes out to the families and friends of the victims who left us on that day. I pray comfort and peace from God for your life. With that, I also applaud the heroism of the firefighters, policemen, and other rescue workers who valiantly put their own fears aside to courageously come to the aid of those in need. You are America's own. God bless you for what you did, your bravery that caused the country to be appreciative we have men and women like you securely in place to serve our nation.

Immediately following 9/11, I wrote a letter to the supporters of Woodson Ministries and to ministers associated with us, giving my response concerning the tragedy. At the time, as you might remember, the 9/11 aftermath held our nation in fear and shock. War had been declared. I wrote a letter to encourage people to have faith in God. I addressed the emotions we were facing and offered three answers from God's Word, saying "we strategically need to pray, overcome fear, and give in love to aid others."

I am attaching a link below so that you can read that letter I wrote. It's the original letter in the original form. The message in it still applies today. Read what I thought and how I felt at that time. I hurt like everyone did over the tragedy, but I knew I had to go beyond my own hurt and try to help people I had communication with to rise up and keep going forward. Frankly, I think the best part of the letter wasn't anything I wrote, but something my son, who was a little boy then, had to say about the 9/11 tragedy. Look for his picture in the letter and the little story next to it.

We remember the loss and the heroism experienced on that day. Blessings to all connected to the lives directly involved in 9/11...and blessings upon all of us -- upon America, a nation of caring people who have CHOSEN not to forget. May we always trust in God; for as Psalm 84: 5, 7 says, "Blessed are those whose strength is in [Him]...They go from strength to strength."
